Do I need special hardware or a particular microphone?
No special hardware. InstantNote runs in the browser on the computer or phone already in your surgery and uses its microphone. In a noisy room a basic external microphone placed near the chair improves transcription, and the app warns you during recording if the microphone goes silent or audio stops reaching the server.
Do patients need to consent to the recording?
You should tell patients the consultation is being documented with an AI assistant and obtain their consent, consistent with Australian privacy law and your practice's policies. Audio is discarded immediately after transcription and is never stored, which most patients find reassuring. Many practices add a line to their standard consent or signage.
